Why?
A poem by Jim Stewart.
Down through the years I’ve pondered
on the mysteries of life,
the puzzling things that test my faith
in a world that’s torn by strife.
For I’ve seen the godless flourish
and I’ve seen the godly die,
and I’ve seen the widows battling
and I ‘ve seen the orphans cry.
I’ve seen the helpless struggle
while the masses pass them by,
and I’ve pleaded for an answer:
“Oh God, please tell me why!”
I’ve seen the righteous tested
with trials beyond compare,
and I’ve seen the wicked living
with hardly a worry or care
I’ve seen the Christmas message
twisted and commercialised,
and I’ve seen the same at Easter
“Oh God please tell me why!”
I’ve seen the innocent struck down
with crippling ills and pain,
and I’ve seen the starving millions
wonder when they’ll eat again
And as my faith’s been tested,
I’ve looked to Heaven and cried:
“Oh Master, won’t you tell me-
please tell the reason why!”
Then the Master quietly whispered:
“My child, please trust me still-
one day you’ll see beyond the veil
and you’ll know your Master’s will!”
