The Season of Lent

The Season of Lent
Next week, we enter the season of Lent which leads up to Easter. This season commences on Ash Wednesday (22 February this year) and finishes on Holy Saturday (8 April), the day after Good Friday. During Lent, we, as the church, remember the life and ministry of Jesus and God challenges us to renew our commitment to Him in Christian discipleship. This week, in our Scripture readings, we will read about the Transfiguration of Jesus from Matthew’s Gospel. This passage is often read in the lead-up to Lent. In this story, Peter, James and John experience a vision where Jesus is joined by Moses and Elijah. Jesus is described as glowing in radiance. In His face we glimpse the presence of the Divine. What do we see as we read tis passage? In Jesus, we experience wisdom, holiness, compassion, justice, humility and grace. In the life and words of Jesus, we are drawn into a deeper sense of the presence and wonder of God in our lives. Commencing on Wednesday, 1 March, members are invited to join the Bible Study entitled “Discipleship for all Seasons” written by Rev Dr Chris Walker, a Uniting Church minister. The study will run from 1.00 – 2.30pm in the WoW Room. The studies will conclude on Wednesday, 5 April. Everyone is welcome.
