The Community of Church

Looking Out  28.8.22

We are constantly reminded in the Scriptures that our life in the church is one of community. Within the life of our church here at Carlingford I am encouraged to see this spirit of community alive and well as many members offer to take on new roles that are, in some cases, taking them outside their comfort zone. It may be small tasks; it may be larger tasks. It might be practical; it might be more theoretical.

Whatever way we respond and offer ourselves in practical ways, we appreciate their contributions. For those unable to contribute in additional practical ways, there are other ways in which we can contribute to this sense of community such as praying for continuing revival within the life of our congregation. And, of course, we can all contribute financially to ensure that the vision of the congregation to call a Church-plant Minister of the Word is not put at risk.

God calls us to be an inclusive, liberating and life-giving people who live a life that is just, loving, kind, gracious and hopeful. You might like to explore some of the opportunities being offered by Uniting Mission and Education to expand your gifts and skills to enable you to contribute further to the life of our congregation’s community. There are courses available on, for example, how we nurture leadership within the church; leading worship; understanding the sacraments and how the life of the Uniting Church is governed.

I encourage you to explore the courses on offer at UME by logging onto
