How Do We Understand God

Looking Out  13.2.2022

I have taken this week’s  Looking out article from With Love to the World, a daily devotional.

We live in an amazing era! Those who use the technology are surrounded by more information than at any other time in history, and there is little factual or informative material that cannot be looked up via the internet. And yet often we seem to be unable to translate all that information into making our lives more meaningful - and we all tend to struggle with the whole question of meaning in life. Part of the problem is that there is a vast difference between wisdom and information. Wisdom is something very different from information. Wisdom is like learning a skill where you have to develop “muscle memory”, which is what athletes and musicians strive to achieve in their practice routines. But “muscle memory” does not happen overnight. It must be learned and developed over time and repeated practice. The wisdom that translates into a meaningful way of life must also be cultivated. This gives us an insight into Pauls caution to “watch carefully how you live, not as fools but as wise”. We live out our faith by putting into practice such activities as showing compassion, offering hospitality, being generous, being a person of integrity, demonstrating forgiveness, and being a witness to Jesus in what we say and do,.

A Question to ponder; Where does your understanding of God come from, and how have your sources changed over the years?

I have come, O God, to praise and thank you for all you have done in my life.
