HIS WORD SHINES BRIGHT

Psalm 119:129- 131(NIV) Your statutes are wonderful; therefore, I obey them. The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. On any night in Sydney or any other major city, it’s hard to see the stars. We know they are there. But just can’t see them all. Move away from the city lights out into the country, and look up at the same sky and you can see millions of stars. They were there in the city, but we can’t see them until we get clear of the lights. Seeking God’s Word is the same. His Word provides a light to us, but we are distracted by other lights that stop God’s Word shining through. We need to spend time away from distractions to read God’s Word to see its true light and what we can learn about God and ourselves. These 3 verses from Psalm 119 tell us three important things about God’s Word – the Bible. Firstly, that it is wonderful, secondly that it provides light, and thirdly it satisfies. They also provide 3 responses to His Word – firstly that we obey it, secondly that it is easy to understand, and thirdly that we yearn for it. His Word gives us light, its shows us the right way to go as it guides our path. Don’t we all need this? Take the time and move away from all our distractions and see God’s clear direction through the light of His Word.
